Oregon just had its biggest fire year on record. More than 2.1 million acres burned. Almost all of it burned east of the Cascades. That is us.
Now the smoke you see is on purpose. Crews on the Deschutes National Forest plan to burn up to 5,886 acres this fall near Bend, La Pine, Crescent, and Sisters.
Prescribed fire clears brush, needles, and small trees. That is the fuel that turns a wildfire into a disaster. A little smoke in fall can mean a lot less smoke in summer.
Winter is when we get ready. That is why we rebuilt this website.
